About the author
Smita DeSouza has always been passionate about beauty – makeup, skincare, hair care, which led her to pursue a career in beauty journalism. Her journey started as a beauty writer at India’s first and largest read English magazine Femina (Bombay, India), and worked her way up to Beauty Editor at Grazia (India) before taking a break from publishing to enroll in a professional makeup course at Christine Valmy International Academy of Beauty. Soon after, she worked with makeup maestro Cory Wallia, Pakkhi Pahuja, Clint Fernandes and MAC. When she got back to publishing as Assistant Editor at ELLE (India), she put everything she had learnt to use contributing to the beauty section and doing the makeup for editorial shoots, while also writing feature stories.
Landing in Singapore, she continued her career writing beauty and fashion articles extensively as the editor at GlamAsia.com (Clozette.co), and later created engaging and informative articles for the expat community as the beauty editor at Expat Living.
Working as beauty editor and makeup artist for the last 10 years has given Smita an all access pass to some of the best skincare experts, celebrity makeup artists, hair stylists and cosmetics and skincare creators. Together they helped create an in-depth understanding of colour cosmetics, hair and skin care and how you can make them work best for you.
The Beauty Desk helps Smita combine her passions for beauty and writing and pass on the trade secrets she has learned over the last decade. You will find reviews for a variety of products because she doesn’t believe something has to be expensive to be effective, curations for your makeup kits, master classes on how to make the latest trends work for you and tips to look your best. Like any beauty editor, she receives press samples from brands to review, but only shares the ones she would recommend to her friends.
